Osaka style food is reasonable, quick to make and good taste which explains why they are so popular.

Among the various foods loved by Osaka locals, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and kushikatsu are all categorized as “konamono” which means that foods made from wheat flour.

Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き)

Okonomiyaki is flour-based batter with cabbage and eggs, and is cooked on a large griddle into a flat, pancake-like shape. You can add thin slices of pork, seafood, cheese on it. Served with a special okonomiyaki sauce.

Takoyaki (たこ焼き)

Osaka takoyaki

It’s a delicious Osakan street food made of diced octopus in a wheat flour-based batter. The snack is lightly fried in special moulded pans to make dumpling-like balls which are brushed with takoyaki sauce and mayonnaise. Finally, they are sprinkled with green laver “aonori” and shavings of dried bonito “katsuobushi” or Served with various toppings and sauces, according to one’s preference.

Osaka kushikatsu

Kushikatsu is a dish of small pieces of skewered and breaded deep-fried meat, fish, seafood and vegetables. The Shinsekai area in Osaka is famous for Kushikatsu restaurants. You have the great number of choices. In the restaurants, there are the dipping sauce set at each table to share with others and thus double-dipping is insanitary. There’s a sign that says “No double-dipping”.
