A spectacular viewing point created by autumn leaves and sea of clouds

Onyu Pass is an 820-meter-high forest road located on the border between Shiga and Fukui prefectures. It is known as a popular spot for driving and touring, and during the autumn foliage season from October to November every year, visitors can enjoy the spectacular scenery of colorful mountain maples and other trees decorating the forest road. Also, early in the morning on days when the temperature difference between day and night is large, visitors can enjoy the mystical collaboration of beautiful autumn leaves and the sea of clouds.

There is no public transportation to Onyu Pass. It is about a 70-minute drive from Adogawa Station on the JR Kosei Line. However, please note that the forest road is narrow and the surrounding area is pitch-dark until sunrise, so please drive carefully.

There are also spaces set aside for parking at viewing points so that visitors can fully enjoy the spectacular view of Onyu Pass. As Onyu Pass is one of the most unexplored areas in Shiga Prefecture, it is relatively less crowded. The curving road makes the view of the autumn leaves even more beautiful, and you can enjoy the spectacular scenery in a quiet space.
