Arashiyama is one of Kyoto’s biggest tourist destination, nature and temples make up beautiful scenery with autumn foliage. It’s probably the best place to spend a day exploring around.


How to get to Arashiyama from Kyoto

The Keifuku Arashiyama Line connect Arashiyama with Omiya station in central Kyoto (20 minutes, 210 yen). A short walk from the very center of Arashiyama.

From Kawaramachi or Karasuma station in central Kyoto (Shijo Street), take the Hankyu main line to Katsura station and transfer to the Hankyu Arashiyama line.

1. Togetsukyo Bridge(渡月橋)

The landmark of Arashiyama, you can chill out along the riverside.

Togetsukyo Bridge is well known Arashiyama’s landmark. It provides a panoramic view of Arashiyama. You can enjoy strolling along the river while seeing autumn foliage on the mountain.

2. Tenryu-ji Temple(天龍寺)

One of Kyoto’s UNESCO world heritage sires

The first ranked Zen Temple has a strolling garden that cover an immense area of about 4,000㎡ and incorporates the scenary of Arashiyama. Maple trees turn red and orange of fall color, providing a magical sight.

13-minute walk (1.0 km) You can walk along the famed Bamboo forest.

Arashiyama bamboo forest is one of Kyoto’s top sights and you’ve probably seen pictures.

3. Jojakko-ji Temple(常寂光寺)

The temple provides a nice view of the city from its grounds.

This mountainside Temple was founded in 1596. Maple trees and moss are located just beside the paths and stone stairs that lead across the temple grounds, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the city of Kyoto over autumn leaves.

4. Seiryo-ji Temple (清凉寺)

The temple is commonly known as Shaka-do with a dry garden.

A lovely temple complex with attractive architecture and a unique statue. Its beautiful Hojo dry garden was built by the famous gardener Kobori Enshu. The garden is very beautiful with bright red maple leaves.
