This mountainside Jojakko-ji Temple was founded in 1596. The temple has a quiet and understated atmosphere, with small, attractive buildings and gates. Maple trees and moss are located just beside the paths and stairs that lead across the temple grounds. The pagoda, which is designated by the national government as an Important Cultural Property, is a relatively new structure constructed in the 17th century. From this pagoda, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the city of Kyoto. The Temple is also famous for its autumn leaves.
