Uji is a suburb of Kyoto well known as the capital of Japanese green tea, located on the banks of the Uji-gawa River. It’s a decent 1day trip out of Kyoto.
Byodo-in Temple「平等院」, located in Uji city, Kyoto is a good example of Buddhist Pure Land architecture. The Phoenix Hall is featured on the back of 10 yen coin.
Ujigami shrine is the oldest standing shrine in Japan. this tranquil shrine, surrounded by trees, is located on the banks of the Uji-gawa river in Kyoto.
Mimuroto-ji temple garden has 10,000 hydrangeas in various pink, purple, blue and white hues and a path that snakes right through them.
Japan is famous for its spring carpet of cherry blossom and autumnal red leaves. Less well known are the hydrangeas. Mimurotoji is famous for its hydrangeas garden.
