Moon Viewing Festival “Kangetsu-no-Yube”

At Daikaku-ji Temple, Moon-viewing festival started when Emperor Saga floated a boat on the Osawa-no-ike Pond on the night of the full moon nearest the Autumn Equinox, and had a party. Visitors can see both the brilliant full moon in the night sky and the reflection on the pond. Buddhist service under the moon is held from 18:30 to 19:00 during the term. Japanese flute, koto and biwa music can be heard from a nearby hall.

Visitors can enjoy viewing the moon from a boat (1000 yen with some green tea. No pre-ordered tickets available) : leaving from 17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00
