This is one of the three major religious festivals held under Imperial tradition in Japan. Set on a peaceful hillside, Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine preserves ancient rituals and ceremonies carried out according to traditional protocols.

Before dawn, around 500 participants dressed in ceremonial attire and carrying paper lanterns depart from the main shrine and make their way to the subsidiary shrine, known as the Tōgū. There, a series of sacred ceremonies take place. In the evening, the procession returns to the main shrine at the top of the hill, bringing the day’s solemn rituals to a close.
