The Setsubun Festival at Yoshida-Jinja
The Setsubun Festival at Yoshida-Jinja
February 1 – February 3
Yoshida-jinja Shrine, located on the west slope of Yoshida-yama, is a popular spot for celebrating the Setsubun festival. Visitors gather to throw beans at performers dressed as Oni (devils), a traditional ritual to drive away evil spirits. The festival grounds are lively, with numerous stalls offering food and drinks.
The festival is held on the day of Setsubun (February 2, 3, or 4), marking the last day of winter in the Japanese lunar calendar. Similar events take place at shrines across Japan, making it a vibrant and widely celebrated occasion.
