Plum Festival at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine
February 25, 2025 / 10:00 – 15:00
Every year on February 25, Kitano-Tenmangu Shrine hosts the Ume Matsuri, also known as Baika-sai. Along with viewing the stunning plum blossoms, one of the festival’s main attractions is the special outdoor tea ceremony, Baikasai.
Visitors can enjoy hot matcha tea and traditional Japanese sweets, often served by Maiko, making it a delightful cultural experience. The shrine grounds feature around 2,000 plum trees, which bloom from early February to mid-March. Strolling through the plum grove paths, visitors are treated to the beautiful sight of colorful blossoms and the sweet fragrance of plum flowers in full bloom.
