Fujinomori Matsuri Festival
Fujinomori Matsuri Festival
May 1 – May 5
The Fujinomori Matsuri (藤森祭) is held annually from May 1 to May 5 at Fujinomori Shrine. During the festival, the shrine grounds come alive with lively food stalls, traditional mikoshi (portable shrines) processions, powerful Japanese drum performances, and a vibrant samurai parade.
The highlight of the festival is the “kakeuma-shinji,” an acrobatic horseback riding ritual with over 1,200 years of history. Originally performed as a prayer for victory in battle and the safe return of samurai, this thrilling spectacle features skilled riders demonstrating daring stunts atop galloping horses—an unforgettable display of tradition and bravery.
