Shitennou-ji Temple is more than just the five-story pagoda「五重塔」 and the main Golden Pavilion 「金堂」. Near to the south gate, there is a little shrine called Manto-in 「万燈院」

Manto-in is believed to house a god who can cure illness. You pray in a different way there – hyakudomairi “百度参り”. Hyaku means one hundred. Your symptoms will be relieved if you walk one hundred times back and forth on the Hyakudoishi path between the shrine and the archway.

Faithful believers do so early in the morning.
