Yoshida-jinja Shrine, on the west slope of Yoshida-yama is one of the famous place for Setsubun festival. People gather to throw beans at performers dressed as “Oni” (devils). It’s a cool place to observe Setsubun. There are also plenty of stalls selling food and drinks.

This festival is held on the day of setsubun (2, 3 or 4 February), which marks the last day of winter in the Japanese lunar calendar. Events are held at shrines around the country.

The Setsubun ritual is from 18:00 on the 2nd.

The Karo-sai festival (the huge fire festival) is from 23:00 on 3rd.
